The lecture “Peacemaker” by internationally recognized Peacemaker, author, and lecturer Marijan Gubina is an inspiring and powerful life testimony that, through a personal story, speaks about the importance of peace, human dignity, and the power of forgiveness. It is based on real events from the Croatian War of Independence, which the author described in his book 260 DAYS, in which he recounts the harrowing experience of captivity and the struggle to preserve hope and humanity in the most difficult circumstances.
Through the lecture, Marijan Gubina openly discusses his war experiences, as well as his path to personal healing, reconciliation, and choosing a life without hatred. His message is aimed at building a society that respects diversity, develops empathy, and fosters a culture of dialogue. This is precisely why the lecture transcends its historical context and becomes a powerful message to young people and adults about the importance of each individual’s responsibility in creating a more just and peaceful society.
The lecture is part of the PEACEMAKER project, implemented by the Mirotvorci Association, which is carried out in schools and universities, bringing together pupils, students, educators, parents, and the wider public. The program aims to foster a culture of peace, understanding, and mutual respect, as well as to raise awareness of human rights, solidarity, and social responsibility.
Since 2013, the “Peacemaker” lecture has been held more than 2,000 times in Croatia, Poland, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has been attended by over 300,000 participants.
Thanks to its powerful message of reconciliation, understanding, and peacebuilding, the “Peacemaker” lecture leaves a deep impression on the audience and encourages participants to reflect on their own values, relationships with others, and the role each of us plays in creating a better and more just society.
