“Little Peacemakers – Great People”
PARTICIPANTS: Students 3. in 4th grade at “Mladost” Elementary School Osijek
COORDINATOR: Marta Gubina, M.Ed.
Students of this age further develop awareness of rights, responsibilities, non-violence, and the importance of respecting others. The program guides them through exploring real stories, learning about examples of personal growth and forgiveness, such as the life story of Marijan Gubina. Children write messages of peace, create a Book of Peace, mark important dates related to the theme, organize humanitarian actions, and express their views through art, developing skills for peaceful conflict resolution, empathy, and cooperation among students. The goal is to empower them as active peacebuilders in the classroom, school, and community.
OBJECTIVE: Developing a culture of peace, tolerance, non-violence, and philanthropy among children through experiential learning, workshops, collaboration with the local community, and artistic forms.
Implementation:
- Motivation: Start from everyday examples (“What do I do when someone has a fight?”), use pictures, drawings, video.
- Methods: Reading comprehension, guided discussion, role-play, teamwork, student journaling.
- Collaboration: Involve parents and the local community (associations, volunteers, guests).
- Evaluation: Good deeds journal, peace messages, brief reflections after workshops, collaborative poster.
- Teaching materials: Use picture books about friendship, UNESCO materials on peace, real-life stories (e.g., Marijan Gubina).
Expected outcomes:
- Students understand basic concepts of peace and tolerance.
- They develop a positive attitude toward diversity.
- Students recognize Little Peacemakers as support in school.
- A culture of peace and non-violent communication is strengthened in the school environment
