PEACEMAKERS

The humanitarian non-profit association PEACEMAKERS (formerly known as Auxilium) has earned the great favor of numerous people of different nationalities, faiths, cultures, and ages through its efforts to make people, and thus the world, better, demonstrating this through its examples (peacemaking/humanitarian activities), programs, and projects. With numerous patronages, in cooperation with many partners, associations, institutions, and individuals, the PEACEMAKERS association has been continuously active since 2011 in Croatia and abroad with the following objectives:

DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURE OF PEACE

UNESCO defined its mission with the following words: “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed (…). The wide diffusion of culture and the education of humanity for justice, liberty, and peace are indispensable to the dignity of man and constitute a sacred duty which all nations must fulfill in a spirit of mutual assistance and concern. Therefore, if we wish to preserve peace, we must begin with the intellectual and moral solidarity of humanity.”

Accordingly, the global tasks and objectives of our projects, programs, and activities for the development of a culture
of peace are:
a) strengthening awareness of personal dignity and the dignity of others;
b) encouraging understanding and respect for differences as social wealth;
c) developing awareness of the need for cooperation and solidarity among people; and
d) accepting the principles of human rights and freedoms, justice, peace, and responsibility.

The following sub-objectives arise from this:

  • involving all groups of citizens and strengthening societal values with the aim of adopting intercultural competencies for the development of intercultural communication that leads to the development of intercultural dialogue;
  • better mutual understanding and knowledge;
  • creating counties, cities, and other places as places without discrimination or conflict, social, physical, and spiritual places where diversity is valued and respected;
  • creating places where people of different races, ethnic groups, religions, cultures, traditions, and customs will respect one another;
  • bringing people together in wisdom, i.e. encouraging them to think realistically: uniting people with one common goal—peace in the world. Promoting public awareness of peace and building cooperation between individuals, states, and (non-governmental) organizations. “Declaration on Fundamental Principles concerning the Contribution of the Mass Media to Strengthening Peace and International Understanding, to the Promotion of Human Rights and to Countering Racialism, Apartheid and Incitement to War.” The United Nations represents the largest grouping of states in the contemporary world. It was founded in 1945 with the adoption of the “Charter of the United Nations,” by which the signatory states committed themselves to promoting the building of global peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, resolving international problems through agreement and acting jointly to achieve the common goals of humanity, and to be guided by the principles of sovereign equality of member countries, responsibility for undertaken obligations, peaceful and just resolution of international disputes, and non-interference in the internal affairs of member states.

The goal is to build a network of international peace and promote a global trend—a culture of peace with the tasks of implementing: universal human rights and freedoms, responsibility/democratic citizenship, equality, justice, culture of peace (understanding and realizing the idea that culture is an indispensable force for the transformation of society is one of the goals that our society should also have), security, solidarity, pluralism, tolerance, intercultural dialogue (The goal of intercultural dialogue is mutual understanding and better coexistence of different nations, cultures, and religious orientations.), spreading democratic “cosmopolitanism” (respect for universal human rights and freedoms, civil society, cultural pluralism, peace, security, and justice), i.e. promoting and protecting the principles of pluralistic and parliamentary democracy.

DEVELOPMENT OF A CULTURE OF REMEMBRANCE

The development of a culture of remembrance primarily has the task of paying tribute to all victims of wars and preserving history, emphasizing war as the greatest tragedy of civilization. In order to understand the present and plan the future, it is necessary to know history. Through a culture of remembrance, we connect organizations and individuals who are direct participants in tragedies, hoping that through joint action we will influence the prevention of the same tragedies from recurring. By learning history, we create the preconditions for a better future.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOCIAL JUSTICE—SOCIAL SERVICES

Protection and rescue of victims of crises caused by human action through various activities, collection of material and financial goods, provision of psychosocial assistance, and other humanitarian activities carried out to protect life, protect health, ensure food and clothing, ensure accommodation, ensure housing, ensure educational conditions, assist in the reconstruction of residential, public, and other facilities, and transport aid. The Association provides humanitarian assistance to all victims and socially vulnerable groups regardless of race, gender, language, religion, political or other belief, national or social origin, age, disability, etc., which we confirm through our continuous humanitarian campaigns and implementation of numerous projects, programs, and activities.
